Child Psychoeducational Assessment
We recommend a Psychoeducational / Learning Difficulty Assessment where there are specific concerns relating to your child’s learning. The purpose of a Psychoeducational Assessment is to identify learning difficulties such as specific learning disabilities (i.e. dyslexia / dyscalculia) or general learning disabilities. A psychoeducational assessment includes:
- Collateral information from parents
- Assessment of Cognitive Ability
- Assessment of Attainment
- Assessment of Handwriting, when clinically indicated (additional fees apply)
- Review of school reports
- Feedback
- Comprehensive psychological report accepted by the HSE and Department of Education.
Full Neurodevelopmental Assessment
A full neurodevelopmental assessment is recommended for children and young people experiencing developmental differences and/or difficulties with learning, social interaction, communication, executive functioning, and emotional regulation, which impact their ability to thrive in age-appropriate daily activities. This assessment is completed by our multidisciplinary team and includes:
- In-depth Developmental Interview with Parents/Guardians
- Completion of psychometric measures related to Autism, ADHD, and Emotional and Behavioural Development.
- Assessment of Cognitive Ability
- Assessment of Attainment
- Assessment of Adaptive Functioning
- Assessment of Handwriting
- Play-based assessment with young children or clinical interview with adolescents
- Collateral information from school
- Review of existing reports
- Liaison with other services, such as GP, when necessary
- Feedback
- Comprehensive psychological report accepted by the HSE and Department of Education.
- Comprehensive list of recommendations.
Multidisciplinary Child Autism Assessment
We provide comprehensive neuro-affirmative and strengths-based multidisciplinary Autism assessments in line with international best practice guidelines. Our Autism assessments are conducted by Dr McMahon in collaboration with an experienced Senior Speech and Language Therapist. Our Autism assessments consists of:
- In-depth Parental Interview, informed by the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised
- A play-based session with your child or a clinical interview with adolescents, informed by the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule.
- Assessment of Cognitive Ability, when clinically indicated (additional fees apply)
- Collateral information gathered directly from school
- Review of relevant reports
- Liaison with other services, such as GP, when necessary
- Feedback
- Comprehensive psychological report accepted by the HSE and Department of Education
- Comprehensive list of recommendations and resources
Child ADHD Assessments
We recommend an ADHD assessment for children (over the age of 6 years old) who present with difficulties related to emotional regulation, concentrating, sitting in their seat in school, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. This assessment includes:
- A Parental Interview
- Assessment of Cognitive Ability
- Assessment of Characteristics of ADHD using standardized measures
- Collateral information gathered directly from school
- Review of existing reports
- Liaison with other services, such as GP, when necessary
- Feedback
- Comprehensive psychological report accepted by the HSE and Department of Education.
- Please note that we do not complete the Qb test as a part of our ADHD assessments as the Qb test is not currently recommended in best practice guidelines for ADHD assessments.
- Should your child be identified as meeting the criteria for ADHD, we are unable to provide pharmacological intervention. You must attend a child psychiatrist if you wish to avail of medication.
Special School Placement Assessments
We offer psychological assessments for children whose parents and teachers may feel that their current school placement is no longer suitable or able to meet their additional learning needs. Our school placement assessments generally consist of a cognitive and adaptive functioning assessment, to ascertain suitability for special educational provisions (as per Department of Education Circulars and Special School Enrolment Criteria).
